Fires DestroyLocal Property

Authorities are delving into the causes behind two separate structure fires that occurred recently, igniting concern and prompting investigations.

The first incident unfolded in the early hours of Friday, March 1, when flames erupted at the Nullawil General Store. Wycheproof CFA swiftly responded to the distress call at 3:20 a.m., deploying their pumper, tanker, and FCV to the scene. The fire, located in Nullawil’s bustling main street, threatened adjacent buildings before firefighters managed to contain it to the initial property. Sadly, the house was lost in the blaze, but firefighting efforts successfully prevented further spread, with crews now engaged in mop-up operations.

Meanwhile, a second structure fire broke out in Birchip on March 3, adding to the urgency of the situation. Once again, the Wycheproof CFA sprang into action, dispatching their pumper to the scene at 3:20 a.m. The residence was engulfed in flames upon arrival, necessitating the presence of Birchip and Watchem tankers to assist in containment efforts. Firefighters swiftly moved to safeguard surrounding assets from the advancing inferno.

Both incidents remain under thorough investigation as authorities work to unravel the circumstances surrounding these unfortunate events. Police were also present at the scenes to manage traffic and crowd control, implementing detours where necessary to ensure public safety amidst the chaos.
