Grafton Aquatic Centre works on target

Emma Pritchard

Hooray! Grafton Aquatic Centre’s on track for a cracker Christmas opening!

No more sweltering through summer without a decent dip, mates! The Clarence Valley Council has confirmed the $29.1 million makeover of the Grafton Aquatic Centre is swimming along smoothly. After months of heated debates and community concern, the project finally got the green light last year, and now demolition’s done and construction’s in full swing.

Councillor Allison Whaites, a champion for the centre, reckons they’re building an indoor facility, a splash pad, a massive 50m pool with a grandstand, an accessible change room, and even sprucing up the existing bits. They’re even using energy-saving features to make it an eco-friendly stunner. And the best part? It’s all set to open before Christmas this year!

After two scorchers without a big public pool, locals are stoked to hear the good news. Dot Baker, who’s been keeping a close eye on the project, says, “This pool’s gonna be a real gem for everyone in the Clarence Valley. It was a hard-fought battle, but seeing the demolition and knowing it’ll be open by summer… that’s the best news ever!”

So, dust off your cossies, Grafton! We’re counting down the days until we can all take a dip in this brand-new beauty.
