Official openings for Jeparit and Nhill Infrastructure developments

“We eagerly anticipate this space evolving into a vibrant community hub, complementing our newly constructed tennis club rooms. We envision our Karen community hosting various clubs and relishing in the amenities of this splendid facility.”

Jeparit Riverbank Precinct Redevelopment

The grand unveiling of the Jeparit Riverbank Precinct is slated for 4:30 pm on Saturday, March 16, 2024, followed by a free community BBQ and a lively concert featuring the renowned Wimmera-based band ‘No Plans.’ The redevelopment entails the replacement of the original bank erosion control retaining wall with a new one, featuring a river viewing deck and access steps. Additionally, new infrastructure includes a camp kitchen with electric BBQs, picnic settings, and a modern amenities building equipped with all-abilities bathrooms, cubicles, and a shower. Adjacent to the Jeparit Caravan Park and Tennis Club, the area has undergone extensive landscaping, complete with automatic sprinkler systems and instant turf.

Expressing his excitement about the project’s completion, Hindmarsh Shire Council Mayor, Cr Brett Ireland, remarked, “The outcome of this project fills me with immense pride. Council staff and councillors alike are thrilled with this achievement. I am so impressed that I have proposed entering this project into a rural project of the year category at the upcoming National General Assembly in Canberra in July. This facility is destined to be cherished across generations, garnering nothing but positive feedback.”

“We extend our gratitude as a shire for the LRCI grant funding, which has been instrumental in realizing both these projects. This funding is pivotal to our capacity to undertake beneficial community and road projects within our Shire,” he concluded.

We eagerly anticipate your presence at these events! For further details, please reach out to Phil King, Manager Economic and Community Development, at 03 5391 4444 or email pking@hindmarsh.vic.gov.au.

HINDMARSH Shire Council cordially invites all community members to the official openings of two significant community projects in Jeparit and Nhill on Saturday, March 16, 2024.

Dr. Anne Webster, Federal Member for Mallee, will officially inaugurate the revamped Jeparit Riverbank Precinct and the Nhill Cane Ball Court, both made possible through funds received from the Australian Government’s Local Roads and Community Infrastructure (LRCI) funding program.

Nhill Cane Ball Court

The unveiling of the Nhill Cane Ball Court, officiated by Dr. Webster, will commence at 12:30 pm on Saturday, March 16, 2024, followed by lunch and cane ball demonstrations. Situated at the Nhill Tennis Club, the court will serve local residents and visitors to the Nhill Karen community, offering what is believed to be the only purpose-built cane ball court in Western Victoria. Cane ball, also known as Chinlone or Sepak Takraw, is a traditional fast-action game where opposing players use their feet to pass a small rattan ball over a net, akin in height to a volleyball net.

Expressing delight in delivering the project, Hindmarsh Shire Council Mayor, Cr Brett Ireland, remarked, “We are thrilled to bring this project to fruition, showcasing our commitment to embracing the rich multicultural environment within our shire.”
